Geocast

Geocast is a communication mechanism that refers to the transmission of a message in a network to a limited area. Geocast is a special form of multicast, be distinguished in which two addressing modes: symbolic and geometric. In addition, includes the new Internet Protocol (IPv6 ) extensions that support geocast.

Geometric addressing

In this addressing an area by means of absolute coordinates, such as specified in WGS84 format ( eg they are used by the Global Positioning System), describes the messages are sent to the then.

Symbolic Addressing

A spatial domain is using an alias, eg Space 2.0.14, addressed. The individual GeoCast routers then you must know the address of this geometric alias.

Advantage of the symbolic addressing with respect to the geometric is the easier manageability for people.
