Geoff Courtnall

Geoff Lawton Courtnall ( born August 18, 1962 in Duncan, British Columbia ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player who from 1983 to 2000 for the Boston Bruins, the Edmonton Oilers, the Washington Capitals, St. Louis Blues and the Vancouver Canucks in the National Hockey League played.

Career

The 1.83 m wide winger was on July 6, 1983 committed as a free agent by the Boston Bruins, for whom he played from 1983/84 season by the year 1988. After his involvement in Boston, he was transferred along with Bill Ranford in a swap deal for goalkeeper Andy Moog to the Edmonton Oilers, with whom he won the Stanley Cup in the 1987/88 season. Four months later, Courtnall joined the Washington Capitals, which he left after two years to St. Louis Blues.

After just one season in St. Louis, the striker moved to a barter transaction in which six players were involved, to Vancouver. With the Vancouver Canucks Courtnall was in season 1993/94 season again in the finals for the Stanley Cup, but the New York Rangers Mark Messier were to be a tough opponent. After two years he returned to St. Louis, where he also finished his career after the 1999/2000 season.

With 70 assists in NHL Playoff games Geoff Courtnall is one of the ten best players in the position of left winger in the all-time best list in this category.

His brother Russ was a successful player in the NHL.
