Geoff Sanderson
Geoff Sanderson ( born February 1, 1972 in Hay River, Northwest Territories ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player who, during his active career, among others, for the Hartford Whalers, Carolina Hurricanes, Vancouver Canucks, Buffalo Sabres, Columbus Blue Jackets, Phoenix Coyotes Philadelphia flyers and Edmonton Oilers played in the National Hockey League.
Career
Sanderson played during his junior time for the Swift Current Broncos of the Western Hockey League. NHL Entry Draft 1990, he was selected in the second round as the 36th of Hartford Whalers.
By the end of the season 1990/91 he came to two appearances in the NHL, scoring his first goal. In the coming season he made his breakthrough as a regular player. Already in the 1992/93 season he was top scorer with 89 points the Whalers. When the NHL only belatedly started in the 1994/95 season because of a strike, he held until then in Finland, the HPK Hameenlinna fit. As were the Whalers from the Carolina Hurricanes, he still train with to, but during the season he was released along with Sean Burke in exchange for Kirk McLean and Martin Gélinas to the Vancouver Canucks. Even after a month, he moved on to the Buffalo Sabres.
For two seasons, he remained in Buffalo before he was hired at the NHL Expansion Draft 2000 by the Columbus Blue Jackets. At the end of his fourth season in Columbus, he was again given to Vancouver. The strike season 2004/ 05 he spent at the HC Servette Geneva in the Swiss National League A.
The 2005/06 season he began again with the Columbus Blue Jackets, but after two games, he moved to the Phoenix Coyotes. In the season 2006/ 07 he was active for the Philadelphia Flyers. In the summer of 2007, he was transferred to the Edmonton Oilers, his one-year contract was not renewed at the beginning of the season 2008 /09.
