Geoff Smith (ice hockey)

Geoff Arthur Smith ( born March 7, 1969 in Edmonton, Alberta ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player who played from 1989 to 1999 for the Edmonton Oilers, Florida Panthers and New York Rangers of the National Hockey League.

Career

Geoff Smith has been selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1987 in the third round as a total 63 players from the Edmonton Oilers. First, however, he played one year for the ice hockey team of the University of Dakota, before moving to the beginning of the 1988/89 season to the Kamloops Blazers of the Western Hockey League. In his rookie season, the season 1989 /90 National Hockey League, Geoff Smith won at the first attempt with Edmonton the Stanley Cup. At the beginning of the 1993/94 season the Oilers gave from the defender to the Florida Panthers, where he remained until 1997. Then the Canadians received a contract as a free agent with the New York Rangers, where he ended his career as a hockey player in 1999.

Since the 2008/ 09 season, Smith works as an assistant coach with the Kamloops Blazers in the WHL.

Internationally

For Canada Geoff Smith took part in the World Youth Championship in 1989 and the World Championship for Men 1993.
