Geoffrey I, Duke of Brittany

Godfrey I ( Geoffroi I. Beranger ) ( † November 20, 1008 ) was Duke of Brittany 992-1008.

He was the son of Conan the Krumme and Ermengarde of Anjou, daughter of Count Godfrey I of Anjou, by his first name came in the Breton Regent list.

After his father's death in 992 the second battle of Conquereuil, Gottfried succeeded him as Count of Rennes. 994 he defeated the young Count of Nantes, Judicaël, he forced her into submission. 995 He then took the title of Duke of Brittany. To secure his rule in the Nantais after the death Judicaëls and Bishop Hervé ( 1004), he was a knight from Rennes choose the new bishop of Nantes: Walter II ( Gauthier II ) ( 1004-1041 ).

Godfrey I died in 1008 on the return trip a pilgrimage to Rome.

He was married to Havoise of Normandy, a daughter of Duke Richard I of Normandy, with whom he had at least three children:

  • Odo ( Éon, Eudon ) (* 999, † 1079 ), Count of Penthièvre
  • Adèle I. († 1067), from 1032 Abbess of Saint -Georges de Rennes
