Geoffrey of Angoulême

Gottfried (franz: Geoffroy, † December 1048 ) was a Count of Angoulême Taillefer out of the house. He was the second son of Count William IV Taillefer and Gerberga of Anjou.

Upon the death of his father in 1028 Gottfried began his elder brother, Count Alduin II to feud from the castle of Blaye from. After an eight- day siege, however, he had to capitulate. His brother forgave him and granted him the fief with two castles in Saintonge. However, Gottfried could take over the rule in Angoulême after the death of his brother in 1032, by ignoring the inheritance of his nephews.

Gottfried was married in first marriage with Petronella, daughter of Mainard " le Riche " and heiress to the castles of Archiac and Bouteville. The couple founded in Bouteville the priory of Saint -Paul, was buried in the Petronella. They had several children:

  • Arnaud ( † after 1076 ), Lord of Montausier
  • Wilhelm ( † September 20, 1076 ), from 1040 Bishop of Angoulême
  • Adémar († September 1, 1101 ), from 1076 Bishop of Angoulême

His second wife Gottfried was married to a unspecified Asceline.
