Geology of the Moon

Selenology ( Greek " lunar ") is the branch of Planetary Geology that deals with the Earth's moon, so with the emergence, the internal structure, the forming processes and the composition of the moon. As an alternative to selenology we also speak of Lunar Geology, Geology moon or just geology of the Moon.

The term was formed in 19th century based on the distinction of geography and geology, then still purely earth-related sciences. So you spoke of the selenology as the equivalent of terrestrial geology, in contrast to selenography, which dealt according to geography with the study of the surface structures of the moon and the creation of lunar maps. Today the term is rarely used today. He also referred to the "moon Customer" or "moon science" in general, especially in Anglo-Saxon Selenology in this more general meaning ( lunar sciences ) will be used.
