GeoPort

GeoPort was a serial port, which could be found on some models of Apple Macintosh computers. The GeoPort changed the very definition of the existing serial ports on the Mac, adding an even faster Direct Memory Access (DMA) channel to, for example, allowed the internal sound card to emulate other devices, such as a modem or fax machine. Apple built the GeoPort in many 68k Macs and some Power Macintosh computers before USB ports are integrated. The GeoPort technology is now considered obsolete and was discontinued.
