Georg Blume

Georg Blume ( born 1963 in Hanover) is a German journalist and longtime foreign correspondent.

Life

Initially trained as a carpenter, he did his community service in a Jewish children's home and a center for peace research in Paris. In France permanently in 1985 he was a correspondent for the taz.

From 1990 he lived in Tokyo, Japan, and reported along with his wife for taz and the Swiss World Week from East Asia, from 1992 also for the time. Since the time and taz opened a joint office in Beijing, Flower was accredited as a correspondent in China. In 2007 he received the Liberty Award in Berlin for his dedicated, critical coverage that nonetheless tries to promote understanding for culturally independent recognition of other countries on the road to greater democracy and freedom. It provides insights into the flower " Chinese internal perspective ", in the changing thinking of the population, and sets it in relation to the official image of the CPC.

Blume's differentiated approach - "As long as we do not explain here the public what ever is going on, we remain with any controversial China pictures" - is sometimes interpreted him as understanding of the dictatorship of the Beijing Communists; however, contradicts his critical reporting on social issues and human rights issues in China.

As of 2009, reported flower as a correspondent from Delhi, since 2013 from Paris.
