Georg Buschner

Georg Buschner ( born December 26, 1925 in Gera, † February 12, 2007 in Jena ) was a German football player and coach.

The six-time National Player of the GDR was after his playing career from 1970 to 1981 coach of the national football team of the GDR.

Biography

Career as a player

George Bush 's father was former Reichsbahn official, his mother a housewife. From 1935 he played at the 1st SV Gera football. After the Second World War, he studied in Jena, history, education and sports science. By the way he played (then as a center forward ) in the BSG Gera -Süd, with whom he was in the 1949 fdgb Cup final. From 1949 to 1952 he played for Gera 84 games in the DDR - Oberliga, the club name changed it several times. After graduating, he became an assistant at the University of Jena and footballers with the Zeiss factory.

From 1952 to 1958 he played for SC Motor Jena (69 league games). Between 1954 and 1957 he was in six appearances for the GDR as a defender on the court, including the first competitive match of the national team at all ( 2-1 on May 19, 1957 against Wales). His last league game played Buschner on 6 July 1958 at the home game against SC activist Brieske - Senftenberg ( 3-0).

Club coach in Jena

Just six weeks after his last game, he sat on August 17, 1958 against SC Chemie Halle ( 4-0) for the first time for the SC Motor Jena in the dugout as the successor to Heinz Pönert. 1963 Buschner was with his team for the first time East German champion - a success he repeated with the now renamed FC Carl Zeiss Jena club in 1968 and 1970. 1970, the 29- year-old Hans Meyer became his assistant coach. Buschner year ended June 30, 1971 his work as a trainer in Jena and was only responsible for the national team. Meyer took over from 1 July 1971 as coach at FC Carl Zeiss Jena. National coach of the GDR

For his successes as a coach, he was several times the Patriotic Order of Merit.

After the football

In his last years, Georg Buschner traveled mainly with his wife Sonja through the world, including to Gran Canaria and Egypt. Buschner died on the night of 12 February 2007. He left behind his wife, two sons and three grandchildren.

The funeral was held in Jena on 16 February 2007. Several football greats such as Hans Meyer, Jürgen saving water, Joachim Streich, Michael Strempel, Lothar Kurbjuweit, Harald Irmscher, Bernd Stange, Rainer Schlutter, Ulrich Göhr and many others were there present.
