Georg Carabelli

Georg Carabelli, Edler von Lunkaszprie (* December 11, 1787 (or 1788) in Pest, † October 24, 1842 in Vienna ) was an Austria - Hungarian dentist.

Georg Carabelli received at the Medical-Surgical Joseph's Academy, the doctorate of surgery and appeared as a medical officer in the army. He made the campaigns of 1809 and 1812, then gave the place and devoted himself entirely to dentistry. At this time dentists enjoyed a very low social status. As a dentist, the imperial family, he received in 1821 by Emperor Franz permission to abide by the University of Vienna lectures on dentistry. These related only to the theory, the practical training took place in his private practice. As the author of the first useful representation of this subject area, he is now regarded as the founder of scientific dentistry. He is the discoverer of the tubercle carabelli. Due to its merits, he received the Hungarian nobility noble from Lunkaszprie and the appointment as Court dentist.

In 1953 in Vienna Floridsdorf ( 21st district ) was named the Carabelligasse after him.

Trivia

When he wanted to animate (1816-1866) his later successor Moriz Heider, to deal with dentistry, is said to have told him: "A honetter man who has learned something that can not be dentist. "
