Georg Gerson

Georg Gerson ( born October 14, 1790 in Copenhagen, † February 16, 1825 ) was a Danish banker and composer.

Life

Gerson showed a talent for business as a teenager and was sent as a 15 -year-old to Hamburg to make there an education. Musically, he was very talented; As a child he was taught by qualified teachers. In his time in Hamburg, he had extensive contact with two former virtuoso violinist Andreas Romberg and cellist Bernhard Romberg ( a cousin of Andrew), and also studied music theory. When he returned to Copenhagen in 1812, he joined the banking firm Hambro at Søn and in 1816 co-owner of the company.

Georg Gerson played in a Copenhagen Quartet. He was also an active member of the Society for the Propagation of the music ( Selskabet for Musikkens Udbredelse ), which played a long time a large role in the Copenhagen music scene. 1821 Gerson was named " hofråd ".

On the way home from a business trip to London, he suffered a stroke in Hamburg, which paralyzed his left hand; thus ended his work as a musician. Already in 1825, at the age of only 34 years, and only four months after his marriage to Adelaide Nathan David, he died of another stroke.
