Georg Goltermann

Georg Eduard Goltermann ( born August 19, 1824 in Hannover, † December 29, 1898 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German cellist and composer.

Life

Goltermanns father was an organist, so George was introduced early on to the music. When he took cello lessons with Joseph Menter in Munich, he has already attracted attention first. He has composed works for cello and led them up in many European countries.

In 1852 he was music director in Würzburg and continued his focus as a conductor and composer. Already in 1853 he accepted the offer as deputy director of music in Frankfurt am Main, where he became Kapellmeister in 1874 and choir director at the Frankfurt city theater. He was buried in 1898 at Frankfurt 's main cemetery.

Work

Goltermann wrote three overtures, songs and organ preludes. However, he is known for his cello works, consisting of eight concertos, sonatas, suites and duos.
