Georg Hermann Struve

Georg Otto Hermann von Struve (born 17 Dezemberjul / 29 December 1886greg in Pulkovo in St Petersburg, .. † June 10, 1933 in Berlin) was a Baltic German astronomer.

Life

Struve was the son of the astronomer Hermann von Struve. From 1905 he studied mathematics and astronomy at the University of Heidelberg. Struve continued his studies at the University of Berlin and ended it there in 1910 with a successful promotion.

From 1911 he worked as an assistant at the observatory in Bonn, at the Berlin Observatory and at the Observatory, Bergedorf, near Hamburg. The following year, Struve staffer at the observatory of the imperial navy in Wilhelmshaven was. During the First World War, he was promoted to lieutenant commander at the observatory.

In 1919 he went to the Babelsberg Observatory and habilitated in 1924 professor. This was followed by extensive study trips to observatories in Johannesburg (1926) and Chicago (Illinois ) ( 1928). At the age of only 47 years Struve died in Berlin.
