Georg Hettich

Georg Hettich ( born October 12, 1978 in Furtwangen ) is a former German nordic combined athlete and Olympic champion.

Career

Hettich started during his playing career for the ski team Schonach- Rohrhardsberg his home town Schonach. He graduated from the Skiinternat Furtwangen and then studied Medical Engineering at the University of Furtwangen branch Villingen -Schwenningen. He is currently a PhD in the field Sportmotorik at the Institute of Sport and Sport Science at the Albert -Ludwigs- University of Freiburg.

At the Junior World Championship 1997 in Calgary Georg Hettich silver with the team as well as the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, at the 2003 World Championships in Val di Fiemme, at the 2005 World Championships in Oberstdorf and at the Olympic Winter Games 2006 in Turin won each a silver medal with the team.

In the Winter Universiade 2005, Georg Hettich won the gold medal in singles.

At the Olympic Winter Games in 2006 he won the individual competition ( Gundersen K90/15 km ) in Turin gold medal and celebrated the greatest success of his athletic career. He also claimed in the team competition with Björn Kircheisen, Ronny Ackermann and Jens Gaiser and won the silver medal in the sprint bronze medal.

In this form he was no longer zoom in the following years. He was absent from the Nordic World Ski Championships 2009 in Liberec, but traveled as a replacement to the 2010 Winter Olympics to Vancouver.

After the end of World Cup season 2009/10 Georg Hettich ended his career. His last World Cup competition he played on March 14, 2010 in Oslo.

Georg Hettich has been elected on the proposal of the CDU faction of the parliament of Baden -Württemberg as a member of the 14th federal assembly.
