Georg Mader

Georg Mader ( born September 9, 1824 in Wolf, a hamlet in Steinach am Brenner in Tirol, † May 31, 1881 in Bad Gastein) was an Austrian painter.

Georg Mader learned the trade of miller and worked until his 16th year as a servant. His spiritual stepbrother prevailed, however, that he was given in Innsbruck, with the painter Hans Mader, into teaching. Here he was encouraged by the well-known professor of aesthetics Flir Alois, who was also the son of a miller. Soon, however, he had to return to the Steinach operation of the mill, was a journeyman and went to the traditional way until the completion of his 20th year of life on the move

Since 1844, he devoted himself entirely to painting and went to Munich to first Wilhelm von Kaulbach, and then to John of Schraudolph. In 1851 he accompanied his teacher Johann von Schraudolph to Speyer, where he worked on the murals in the cathedral there until 1853. Here he learned well the painter Franz Hellweger know, who also cooperated with the murals.

In the same year returned to the Tyrol he impoverished, so he had to deal with decorative painting. It was only through the mediation of Franz Hellweger, who took over the oil paintings, Mader painted from 1858 to 1866 the fresco cycle "Life of Mary " in the town church of Bruneck, which justified its reputation. In 1861 he founded, together with Albert Neuhauser ( 1832-1901 ) and the architect Josef von barn ( 1828-1893 ) in Innsbruck, the Tyrolean stained glass. Mader was this Art Institute until his death as a shareholder. From 1867 to 1871 he painted on the vault of the church of Steinach the cycle "Life of Jesus ". In 1868 he became a member of the Vienna Academy of Art. From 1872-1873 he painted the cycle " From the Life of St Magdalena " in the vault of the Church of Kematen. Since 1874 he painted the frescoes in the parish church of Bad Ischl. The work was almost completed when he suffered a stroke on 10 January 1881. He recovered, but recorded only templates for the Tyrolean stained glass. In Bad Gastein, he hoped to help, but there different after the first day of his arrival.
