Georg Nikolaus von Nissen

Georg Nikolaus Nissen ( born January 22, 1761 Haderslev, † March 24, 1826 in Salzburg) was a Danish diplomat and writer. As a husband of Mozart's widow, he became one of the first biographers.

Life

Georg Nikolaus Nissen was the son of the merchant Jens Nissen and Anna Elisabeth Zoëga that came from an influential Danish family. After studying law at the University of Copenhagen (1778-1781) was, Nissen first employed by the General Post Office Copenhagen, which was led by his uncle Jürgen Zoëga. In 1791 he joined the diplomatic service, however. First, the Danish envoy at the Reichstag in Regensburg, he lived since 1793 as Secretary of Legation of the Danish embassy in Vienna. At least since 1798 he lived in the home of Mozart's widow Constanze. The two married on June 26, 1809 in Bratislava. In 1810, the couple moved to Copenhagen, where Nissen worked as a censor and the State Council.

Between 1820 and 1824, the couple traveled to Germany and Italy and settled in August 1824 in Salzburg down.
