Cabaret

Schramm is considered one of the best and sharpest representatives of political cabaret. In his polemical texts analyzed, and he often criticized the capitalist economic system and the prevailing zeitgeist, by confronting it with the classical educational ideals, while the line between fun and seriousness blurred. He occurs almost exclusively in the form of self-developed art figures in front of the audience. In particular, his well-known stage characters are not mere sketches of functional types, " but worked out to the last detail characters ".

Regularly employed figures during his performances are

  • Lothar Dombrowski, an unruly and old Prussian pensioners ( named after a former newsreader )
  • Lieutenant Colonel Sanftleben, one drawn from his long military service, press and public relations officer,
  • August printer, a mentally living in the past Hessian Social Democrat and former trade unionist who has become an annuity in the current stage program ( a character who died in part due to Schramm's father aims )
  • As well as an always cheerfulness sprayed and ever groaning Rhinelander, which represents the average person with no occupational specification during his performances in Neues aus der Anstalt a pharmaceutical representative and Schramm stage programs.

In this role, the World War II veterans Schramm wearing a black glove, which is a prosthetic hand. In an interview he said that there was a reason for the glove, but he the one who had brought him to the idea, have promised never to spread the true reason.

During his various stage programs, changed his first rather classic political " number Cabaret ," which he theatrically enriched to display his art figures, more and more, so that in addition to his cabaret been ever increasingly appreciated his acting performance in the direction of a through-composed theater presentation.

Another peculiarity of his cabaret performances and other performances were his partial clearly articulated personal stance on the issues. Schramm offered no purely entertaining superficial political satire, but urged both by his artistic imagination as well as through direct appeals a substantive positioning of the spectator one. This was reflected, for example, even in his final speeches to the audience in which he wooed reflection and personal commitment.
