Georg Spohr

George Spohr ( born January 24, 1951 in Magdeburg ) is a former coxswain in rowing from the GDR. 1976 and 1980 Spohr was Olympic champion in pairs with coxswain.

Life

In the fall of 1975 Harald yearling and Friedrich -Wilhelm Ulrich formed a new two. As the helmsman in a competition weight of 47 kg only 1.48 m wide Spohr moved into the boat. The rowers from SC Magdeburg able to prevail in the Olympic qualification in 1976 against the reigning Olympic champion and world champion Wolfgang Gunkel, Jörg and Lucke. At the Olympic Games in 1976 yearling, and Ulrich Spohr were clearly superior and won with nearly three seconds ahead of the Soviet boat.

Spohr trained as a telecommunications technician, but worked in the film and photography department of the SC Magdeburg.
