Georg Totschnig

Georg Totschnig ( born May 25, 1971 in Innsbruck ) is an Austrian former road bicycle racer.

Sports career

Totschnig 1989 Austrian Junior Champion in the road race and time trial and second in the Mountain Championships.

In 1993 he moved from the amateurs to the pros in the Italian team Polti. In his first year as a pro, he won the Tour of Austria. He played with this team the Giro d' Italia in 1994, finishing in 13th place. This power he confirmed at the Giro d' Italia in 1995 and finished ninth.

After three years at Polti he moved 1997 to the winner of the 1997 Tour de France, Jan Ullrich, organized Team Telekom. For this team, he enters the Tour de France three times, and after he moved in 2000 were not nominated joined the team Gerolsteiner for the tour.

As captain of the team Gerolsteiner for stage races, he finished the Giro d' Italia in 2002 and 2003 Rank 7 Rank 5 In the 2004 Tour de France he finished seventh. The resulting raised expectations could Totschnig at the Tour de France 2005 not initially meet. He lay in the overall way back and wanted to give up. At the end of the 2006 season Totschnig ended his cycling career. After his career Totschnig was accused in 2009 in the context of human plasma doping affair to have used EPO to increase performance.


Totschnig is married and father of three children.

His brother Harald Totschnig is also cyclist.
