Georg Volkert

Georg " Schorsch " Volkert ( born November 28, 1945 in Ansbach ) is a former German football player.

Volkert was one of the best left winger in the Bundesliga. He began his professional career in 1965 at the 1st FC Nuremberg. He was with the people of Nuremberg under coach Max Merkel German champion and rose from a year later with Nuremberg of the Bundesliga in 1968. Before beginning the descent season he was expelled in a friendly match against Austria Vienna on June 12 due to referee insult of the field and caused by his refusal to leave the pitch for a match being abandoned.

In the seasons 1969/70 and 1970/71 Volkert played at FC Zurich and scored 15 goals in 52 games in the National League A. Volkert 1971 moved to Hamburger SV. With the HSV he won the DFB-Pokal in 1976 and a year later the European Cup Winners' Cup. The exceptionally good performance in this period resulted in the now 30 -year-olds back in the national team. He made 1977 another six internationals. In his last game, the German team while reaching the first success against Italy after the second world war. Overall, it brought Volkert on 12 internationals.

In 1978 he moved to VfB Stuttgart and has been with the Swabians in the first season German vice-champion. His career ended in 1981 Volkert again at the 1st FC Nuremberg.

Georg Volkert completed a total of 410 Bundesliga games and scored 125 goals. With 31 of 35 turned penalties was one of the best penalty takers in the Bundesliga. After the completion of his professional career Volkert was still playing at the amateur clubs Hummelsbütteler SV and TuS Hoisdorf to subsequently begin a career as a manager, first at FC St. Pauli and Hamburger SV. His time as a manager of a professional football club, however, was not characterized by such successes as his active career. Until 1991, he tried his hand at this function at HSV, 1996 until December 12, 1998, he was a manager at the 1st FC Nuremberg. Here he was, however, for the lack of competitiveness of the "Club" squad blamed and fired, bringing his official career was over.

Volkert lives in the community of Saxony in Ansbach near his birthplace, where he runs a sports agency today. In his spare time he plays golf.
