Georg von Manteuffel-Szoege

Georg Baron Manteuffel Szoege ( born March 7, 1889 in Montreux ( Switzerland ), † June 8, 1962 in Bad Godesberg) was a German politician of the CSU.

Life and career

His parents were Georg von Manteuffel - Szoege (1862-1919) and Sophie (1866-1949), née Countess of Rüdiger. He had two siblings, brothers Henry (1893-1946) and Hans ( 1894-1919 ).

After graduation Manteuffel Szoege studied from 1909 to 1913 in Halle and Heidelberg, where he also received his doctorate of philosophy, history and economics. In Heidelberg he was a member of the Corps Saxo - Borussia. 1914/15, he gained the Kurzeme Kreditverein first professional experience. He was then to 1918 Secretary of the Delegation of the Courland knighthood in Berlin and also worked for the German cooperative movement in Poznan.

After the First World War Manteuffel Szoege served until 1920 as a volunteer in the Baltic Landwehr. From 1921 to 1939 he devoted himself to the management of the family estate in Zabłudów in Białystok. Since 1936, he was next to a lecturer in East European History at the university abroad in Berlin. In 1940 he joined the Foreign Office, but he left after two years to devote himself again to the family in Zabludow.

After the Second World War Manteuffel Szoege came as a refugee to Bavaria. Initially he worked as a peasant farmer in Lower Bavaria, but managed since 1947 the rule Pappenheim as a trustee. In 1950 he became President of the General Administration of emergency and in the same year also the chairman of the German -Baltic country team. Starting in 1954, he stood before the Association of the country teams. After the founding of the League of displaced persons ( BdV ) as a new umbrella organization of all displaced persons associations he belonged from 1960 to 1961 the Bureau of BdV on.

Member of Parliament

Baron Manteuffel Szoege was a member of the CSU and belonged to the German Bundestag from 1953 until his death on; here he emerged mainly as a foreign policy expert.
