Georg von Rosen

Johan Georg Otto von Rosen ( * Paris February 13, 1843; † Stockholm 1923) was a Swedish Count and painter.

From 1857 to 1861, Rosen studied at the Art Academy in Stockholm. In 1862 he was at the World Exhibition in London, where he became acquainted with the historical work of the Belgian Hendrik Leys, who made a strong impression on of roses. Von Rosen went on in 1863 to Belgium, where he met H. Leys personally. After his return to Sweden, he created the painting collection of Sten Sture the Elder in Stockholm, which was rewarded with a royal medal. He then started a journey to Egypt, Palestine, Syria, the Ottoman Empire, Greece and Hungary, where he studied painting. In 1866 he was in Rome and afterwards was of roses again Henrik Leys until his death in 1869. Later he was in Munich under Karl Piloty and then in Italy, after which he returned to Sweden in 1871.

1872 of roses member of the Academy of Arts, 1874 Associate Professor and in 1880 Full Professor of figure drawing and painting. From 1881 to 1887, he was director of the educational institution of the Academy.
