Career

Zellhofer played from 1977 to 1992 in the Austrian Bundesliga at the clubs SK Vorwärts Steyr, Linz VOEST, SK Sturm Graz and LASK and completed 196 games in the highest Austrian league. After his career as a football player, he began to work as a highly successful coach in Austria.

In July 1996 he took over as coach of SV Traun and led the club in only 6 seasons of the second national league ( fifth- highest division ) in the Bundesliga. In the first season in the Bundesliga (2002/ 03) Traun was temporarily leaders and eventually finished the season in fifth place. In July 2003 Zellhofer moved for health reasons in the short term as manager of Traun back, took office but already in January 2004. In the seasons 2003/ 04 and 2004/ 05 it reached with Traun positions three and four, respectively, and thus managed to qualify for the UEFA Cup.

From 1 January 2006 to 27 August 2006 has been Zellhofer coach at SK Rapid Wien, where he became the successor of Josef Hickersberger, but was dismissed due to poor results.

On 23 October 2006 Georg Zellhofer was introduced as the successor of Frenkie Schinkel at Rapids arch rival FK Austria Wien as a coach. His first competitive match in Austria as manager against Wacker Tirol he won with 4:1. After Austria Wien in the 2006/2007 season struggled a long time with relegation worries and wintered on the last place in the standings, he led his team on May 1, 2007 victory in the national cup finals ( 2-1 against SV Mattersburg) and thus fixed his first title as a club coach. This also meant qualification for the UEFA Cup. In the championship, his team still improved until end of season in sixth place.

On 19 March 2008 the cooperation with FK Austria Magna was dissolved and was succeeded by Dietmar Constantini. In the summer of 2008 Zellhofer was short coach of Bundesliga club SV Ried; Zellhofer was but with the squad compilation not satisfied, signed a contract and left the club before the season starts. In January 2009 he signed for SC Rheindorf Altach a contract until the summer of 2009.

After the descent he could not stop with his club, he finished his commitment in Altach and hired initially only as an advisor of his longtime club FC Pasching, later he became head coach and finished the season 2009/10, ranked one of the Regional center. However, was not allowed to ascend to the First League FC Pasching for legal reasons.

End of June 2010 finally took Zellhofer mediation of Hickersberger the offer to attend the Olympic team of Bahrain, to. Hickersberger himself had taken over in early June for the umpteenth time the senior national team of Bahrain.

In November, the way cell Hofer and the U23 selection Bahrain but parted again. A few days later, on 11 November 2010, signed Zellhofer a contract with the Upper Austrian history, the club LASK Linz. On 1 March, he was released when LASK amid continued persistent failure and replaced by Walter Schachner.
