George Amy

George Amy (* October 15, 1903 in Brooklyn, New York City; † December 18, 1986 in Los Angeles, California ) was an American editor.

Life and work

Amy George began his career in the film business in 1921 with the film Burn ' Em Up Barnes. The 1932 turned horror film Doctor X meant the first collaboration with director Michael Curtiz, many more followed. In 1947 with Life with Father their last joint production. Several films shot Amy also with the directors Lloyd Bacon and Busby Berkeley.

For the first time nominated for the Academy Award for Best Editing George Amy 1943 for the film Yankee Doodle Dandy. The following year he won the trophy for the war film Air Force. He was nominated one last time for the Film Award in 1946 for the staged by Raoul Walsh film The hero of Burma ( Objective, Burma ).

Amy George was also active as a director, in 1933 he directed with love and other commercial his first film. By 1940, created under his aegis six more films.

After working on the film She Could not Say No from 1954 Amy retired from active film business, until 1956, he served as supervising editor for the TV series Schlitz Playhouse of Stars.
