George B. Schwabe

George Blaine Schwabe ( born July 26, 1886 in Arthur, Vernon County, Missouri, † April 2, 1952 in Alexandria, Virginia ) was an American politician. Between 1945 and 1949, and from 1951 to 1952, he represented the first electoral district of the state of Oklahoma in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

George Schwabe was the older brother of Max Schwabe, who was 1943-1948 congressman for the state of Missouri. He attended the schools of his home and then studied at the University of Missouri Law. After his made ​​in 1910 admitted to the bar he began in Columbia to work in his new profession.

In 1911, Schwabe moved to Nowata, Oklahoma, where he also practiced as a lawyer. He became a member of the Republican Party. Between 1913 and 1914 he was mayor of Nowata and from 1918 to 1922 he was in the council of this place. At the same time he was a member of the House of Representatives from Oklahoma. In the years 1921 and 1922, he served as its president. In 1922, George Schwabe moved to Tulsa, where he also worked as a lawyer. Between 1928 and 1936 he was chairman of the Republicans in Tulsa County. Since 1912, he participated in all of the Republican party conventions in part at the state level in Oklahoma. In 1936 he was a delegate to the Republican National Convention.

1944 Schwabe was elected in the first district of Oklahoma in the U.S. House of Representatives, where he replaced Wesley E. Disney from the Democratic Party on January 3, 1945. After a re-election in 1946, George Schwabe was able to complete first two terms in Congress. In the 1948 elections he was defeated Dixie Gilmer. But in 1950 he was able to regain his seat in Congress. There he stepped on 3 January 1951 a further term, but he could not stop because he died in the legislature in April 1952 in the middle.
