George Barker (Virginia politician)

George Lincoln Barker ( born August 24, 1951 in Eldorado, Illinois ) is an American politician (Democratic Party). Since 2008 he is a Senator in the Senate of Virginia, representing the 39th district there.

Life

Barker attended Harvard College, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in economics and health sciences. He then continued his studies at Harvard University and graduated with a Master of Science in Health Policy and Management.

Barker was now working in health care and worked for more than three decades for the Health Systems Agency of Northern Virginia. In 2007, he was first elected to the Senate of Virginia. Barker was competing against the Republican incumbent Jay O'Brien. 2011 was Barker's re-election.

Barker is married and has two children, a son and a daughter. In addition, he and his wife were foster parents for 13 children.
