George Biskup

George Joseph Biskup ( born August 23, 1911 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, USA; † 17 October 1979) was Archbishop of Indianapolis.

Life

George Joseph Biskup received on 19 March 1937, the sacrament of Holy Orders for the Archdiocese of Dubuque.

On March 9, 1957, he was named by Pope Pius XII. Titular Bishop of Hemeria and Auxiliary Bishop of Dubuque. The Apostolic Delegate in the United States, Archbishop Giovanni Cicognani Amleto, donated to him on 24 April of the same year the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were the Archbishop of Dubuque, Leo Binz, and the Bishop of Rockford, Loras Thomas Lane.

Biskup attended all four sessions of Vatican Council some time as a Council Father.

On January 30, 1965 Pope Paul VI appointed him. Bishop of Des Moines. He was appointed Koadjutorerzbischof of Indianapolis and titular Archbishop per hac vice of Tamalluma Already on July 20, 1967. With the resignation of Paul Clarence Schulte on January 3, 1970, he followed them as Archbishop of Indianapolis.

On March 20, 1979 Pope John Paul II took his health-related waiver on the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. Biskup died in the same year.
