George Botsford

George Botsford ( born February 24, 1874 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, † February 11, 1949 in New York City ) was an American composer of ragtime and other genres of music.

Biography

Botsford was born in 1874 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and grew up in Iowa. His first composition was published in 1899 in Centerville The Katy Flyer - Cake Walk. His most famous Rag is the Black and White Rag, which was published in 1908.

Botsford went to New York City and was Tin Pan Alley composer. In order from 1914 to 1915, he experimented with the " mini-opera " that should be sung by three or four people; but the idea was not well received. After a long career with a variety of music, he died in 1949 in New York City.
