George Edward Wales

George Edward Wales ( born May 13, 1792 in Westminster, Windham County, Vermont; † January 8, 1860 in Hartford, Vermont ) was an American politician. Between 1825 and 1829 he represented the third electoral district of the state of Vermont in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

George Wales attended the common schools and then studied at Westminster and Woodstock Jura. After his made ​​in 1812 admitted to the bar he began in Hartford to work in his new profession. In 1818 he became treasurer of the company White River Bridge Co.

Although he belonged to any political party, Wales made ​​a political career in Vermont. Between 1822 and 1824 he was a member of the House of Representatives of the State of which he became president. In the congressional elections of 1824 he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Henry Olin on March 4, 1825. After a re-election in 1826 he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1829 two legislative sessions. In the elections of 1828 he was defeated Horace Everett.

After the end of his time in Congress, Wales again worked as a lawyer. Between 1840 and 1860 he was ratchet driver ( Town Clerk ) of Hartford. The Judicial District of Hartford, he served 1847-1850 as a judge at the local probate court. George Wales died in January 1860 and was buried in Hartford.
