George Engleheart

George Engleheart (* October 1752 in Kew, † 1829 in Blackheath ) was a miniaturist and was thus in direct competition with Richard Cosway, one of the most influential British artists of the 18th century.

He learned his craft under George Barret and later under Joshua Reynolds. He began his work in 1773 with an exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts.

When he finished his work in 1813, he left behind an order book in which he listed all his orders exactly - 4,853 miniatures in 39 years. So he painted alone King George III. twenty-five times. His works are usually signed with "E" or "GE".

He died in 1829 at Blackheath in 1829 and was buried at Kew.
