George FitzClarence, 1st Earl of Munster

George Augustus Frederick Fitz- Clarence, 1st Earl of Munster ( born January 29, 1794 in London, † March 20, 1842 ibid ) was a British Major-General the 36th ( Herefordshire ) Regiment of Foot.

Life

Frederick was the illegitimate son of the Duke of Clarence and later King William IV (1765-1837) and his longtime mistress and actress Dorothea Jordan ( 1761-1816 ). The children from the Liaison got the family name FitzClarence. Frederick got for his stand accordingly a good education and studied at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in Sandhurst, Berkshire.

On October 18, 1819 Frederick FitzClarence married in London Maria Wyndham ( 1800-1842 ), illegitimate daughter of George Wyndham, 3rd Earl of Egremont, and his mistress and later wife Elizabeth Ilive. From the joint connecting seven children were born:

  • Mary Gertrude (1832-1834)
  • George (1836-1894) ∞ 1864 Lady Henrietta Maria Scott
  • Edward (1837-1855) fallen in the Crimean War
