George Ford (politician)

George Ford ( born January 11, 1846 in South Bend, Indiana; † August 30, 1917 ) was an American politician. Between 1885 and 1887 he represented the State of Indiana in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

George Ford attended the common schools and worked part-time as Fassbinder. After a subsequent law studies at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and his 1869 was admitted to the bar he began in his hometown of South Bend to work in this profession. In 1873 and 1875-1884, he served as a prosecutor in St. Joseph County.

Politically, Ford was a member of the Democratic Party. In the congressional elections of 1884 he was in the 13th electoral district of Indiana in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Benjamin F. Shively on March 4, 1885. Since he resigned in 1886 to run again, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1887. After his retirement from the U.S. House of Representatives Ford headed for some time, the legal department of a large company. He then practiced as a lawyer again in South Bend. In 1914, he was elected in St. Joseph County judge of the Superior Court. He died on 30 August 1917 in South Bend.
