George Forrest (author)
Chet Forrest ( born July 31, 1915 in Brooklyn, New York City; † October 10, 1999 in Miami, actually George Forrest Chichester Jr.) was an American pianist, conductor, composer and songwriter.
Life
When George Forrest Chichester Jr. was born in Brooklyn, Forrest moved with his family in the early 1920s in the vicinity of Miami. At the age of 13, he appeared as pianist in nightclubs and accompanied singers like Al Jolson. At his high school, he met Bob Wright know, who also played as a pianist in night clubs. Together they wrote songs for numerous revues from then on. In 1934 she went on tour together, which took them to New York City to Hollywood. There they received as Songschreiberduo a seven-year contract with MGM. Songs from their spring 1937 found, among other things used in the film operetta Maytime ( Maytime ) with Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy, whose original songs had been rejected by MGM. In 1939, she received her first of three Academy Award nominations for Best Song for Always and Always from the movie Mannequin.
On Broadway, Forrest and Wright were recorded in 1953 with their musical Kismet a great success. These were an adaptation of Borodin's opera Prince Igor, created after the famous songs like Stranger in Paradise. In 1954 she was awarded the Tony Award for Kismet in the category Best Musical. A year later, the musical by Vincente Minnelli was filmed under the same title. Forrest and Wright's collaboration lasted until the 1990s and brought together more than 2,000 songs for Broadway and film productions produced.
His last years were spent Forrest in Miami, where he died at the age of 84 years in 1999. Shortly before, he had worked with Wright on a new musical titled Betting on Bertie.
