George G. Sumner

George G. Sumner ( born January 14, 1841 in Hebron, Connecticut, † September 20, 1906 in Hartford, Connecticut ) was an American politician. Between 1883 and 1885 he was Deputy Governor of the State of Connecticut.

Career

George Sumner grew up in Bolton in Tolland County and then moved to Hartford. After studying law and his 1864 was admitted as a lawyer, he began to work in this profession. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Democratic Party launched a political career. In 1867 he sat as an MP in the House of Representatives from Connecticut. Between 1878 and 1880 he was mayor of Hartford. He struck in the election of 1878, the later governor and U.S. Senator Morgan Bulkeley.

1882 Sumner was elected to the side of Thomas M. Waller as vice- governor of Connecticut. This post he held 1883-1885. Yet he was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. In the years 1887 and 1888 Sumner was a state senator. He died on 20 September 1906 in a hospital in Hartford. With his wife, Julia Ella Gallup he had two children.
