George Gale (congressman)

George Gale ( born June 3, 1756 Somerset County, Maryland; † January 2, 1815 in Cecil County, Maryland ) was an American politician. Between 1789 and 1791 he represented the state of Maryland in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

George Gale attended the public schools of his home. During the Revolutionary War he served in the Continental Army. He was also a member of the Assembly, which ratified the Constitution of the United States for the State of Maryland. Politically, he was a follower of the future President George Washington (Pro - Administration Group ). In the congressional elections of 1789 he was elected the fifth electoral district of Maryland in the time which meets even in New York U.S. House of Representatives, where he took up his new mandate on March 4, 1789. Until March 3, 1791, he was able to complete a term in the first Congress.

After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives of the Authority has been appointed for the control of alcohol production in Maryland ( Supervisor of Distilled Liquors ) George Gale of President Washington to the conductor. He died on January 2, 1815 on the estate Brookland in Cecil County, where he was also buried. His son Levin (1784-1834) was also a congressman for Maryland.
