George Grove

Sir George Grove ( * August 13 1820 in Clapham, England; † May 28, 1900 in Sydenham ) was a British writer on music.

The most important contribution of his work on the then nascent field musicology was the publication of a four-volume encyclopedia of music. The in the next edition of the Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians always grown Encyclopedia is the most comprehensive and most important musicological reference work in the English language.

Grove 1865 was co-founder of the Palestine Exploration Fund.
