George Habash

George Habash (Arabic: جورج حبش Dschurdsch Habash, French spelling Georges Habache; born August 2, 1926 in Lydda, Palestine, the son of Greek Orthodox parents; † January 26, 2008 in Amman, Jordan) was from 1968 to 2000 Secretary General of the Popular Front for the Liberation of of Palestine ( PFLP ).

Life

Habash and his family were expelled after taking Lydda by Israeli troops from their home town. After completing his medical studies, with special training for pediatricians at the American University in Beirut in 1951, Habash worked as a doctor in Palestinian refugee camps in Amman.
