Born in the German Confederation Heubel debuted in 1871 with the Philadelphia Athletics of the National Association, an early U.S. professional league for baseball. Heubel denied in his first season, 17 games and scored 23 hits, 18 runs and a batting average of .307. To this end, he helped the Athletics won the NA Championship with 21-7 games. In his second season he moved to the Washington Olympics, where he completed only five games and his batting average dropped to .130.
