George II, Duke of Württemberg-Montbéliard

George II of Württemberg- Montbéliard ( born October 5, 1626 Mömpelgard, † June 1, 1699 ibid ) was Duke of Württemberg- Montbéliard.

Life

George II was a son of Duke Ludwig Friedrich of Württemberg- Montbéliard (1586-1631) from his second marriage with Anna Eleonora (1602-1685), daughter of Count John Casimir of Nassau- Gleiberg ( 1593-1602 ). He followed in 1662 his older brother Leopold Friedrich Duke of Württemberg- Montbéliard.

1676 Mömpelgard was occupied by French troops of Louis XIV, who tried to bring under its policy of conquest Württemberg linksrheinische possessions under his control. George fled his country in 1684 and received the opportunity to return, but refused to recognize the Oberlehnsherrschaft France. The country was therefore administered to 1698 by George Frederick Charles cousin. After his death, George finally returned to Mömpelgard and died the following year.

On March 9, 1648, the Duke married in Mömpelgard Anne de Coligny ( 1624-1680 ), daughter of Gaspard III. de Coligny and sister Marshal of France Gaspard de Coligny IV. With her he had the following children:
