George II, Prince of Anhalt-Dessau

Georg II of Anhalt (* 1454, † April 25, 1509 ) called " the Strong" was a prince of Anhalt- Köthen.

Life

George was a son of Prince Georg I of Anhalt -Zerbst (1390-1474) from his fourth marriage to Anna († 1513), daughter of Count Albrecht von Lindau - Ruppin.

1470 had George's father placed the government in the hands of his sons, who divided the land in 1471. George and Waldemar VI. Anhalt- Köthen got and Ernst Sigismund III and. received Anhalt -Dessau, Rudolf was resigned to a sum of money. Georg took service with the Elector of Brandenburg, who in 1498 appointed him governor of the Duchy of Crossen. In 1478, he married twenty years older than Agnes († 1512), daughter of Duke Barnim VIII of Pomerania. The marriage remained childless. Prince George was buried in the Abbey Chapel Ballenstedt.

George is said to have has exceptional physical strength, which earned him his nickname; he is a bear killed with a single punch and have a famous Italian wrestler " crushed " in first gear.
