George Karl

George Matthew Karl ( born May 12, 1951 in Penn Hills, Pennsylvania) is an American professional basketball coach and former player. Most recently, he coached from 2005 to 2013 the Denver Nuggets. Previously, he had been coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors, Real Madrid, the Seattle SuperSonics, and the Milwaukee Bucks.

Stations as a player

After his time at the University of North Carolina, Charles was drafted in 1973 as the 14th pick of the fourth round by the New York Knicks. However, Karl immediately changed to the American Basketball Association team San Antonio Spurs. 1976 Karl joined the Spurs in the National Basketball Association. 1978 Charles ended career as a basketball player.

Teams managed

After his playing career coach Karl was at the CBA team Montana Golden Nuggets. 1981 and 1983 he reached the finals in each case with the golden nuggets and Award two years as coach of the year. In 1984 he got the chance as a head coach in the NBA to work for the Cleveland Cavaliers. After he was released there in 1986, he signed on with the Golden State Warriors. After a successful first season, he was sacked after a poor start to the 1987-88 season. Karl now trained with the Albany Patroons again a CBA team and was awarded in 1989 for the third time as coach of the year. In the seasons 1989-90 and 1991-92, he coached the Spanish giants Real Madrid. Karl came during the 1992 season in the NBA back. In the seven seasons with the Seattle SuperSonics his team always reached the play-offs. With the Sonics Karl won several times the title in the Northwest Division. 1996 subject to the Sonics until the NBA Finals the Chicago Bulls with 2:4 games. In 1998 Karl to the Milwaukee Bucks. There he built a powerful team to the 2001 Conference Finals reached. The Bucks documents after seven games the Philadelphia 76ers. The next seasons with the Bucks went against it disappointing. 2002 Karl coached the U.S. selection at the FIBA World Championship in Indianapolis, where the hosts and favorites failed in the quarter- finals. 2003 dismissed the Bucks their head coach. Charles then worked as an expert at a sports broadcaster. In January 2005 he was presented at the Denver Nuggets as the new head coach. With a series of 32:8 wins the Nuggets reached surprisingly still the postseason. Under his direction, the Nuggets reached the play-offs every year and failed 2009 until the Conference Finals on the latest NBA champion LA Lakers.

George Karl has won 11 December 2010 with the Denver Nuggets as the seventh coach in the history of the NBA 1000 victories or more.

For the performance of his team during the season 2012/2013 Charles the NBA Coach of the Year Award received. However, he was nevertheless dismissed shortly after it because the Nuggets were eliminated in the first round of the play -offs against the Golden State Warriors.
