George L. Brown

George Leslie Brown ( born July 1, 1926 in Lawrence, Kansas, † March 31, 2006 in Boca Raton, Florida ) was an American politician. Between 1975 and 1979 he was Deputy Governor of the State of Colorado.

Career

In 1944 graduated from the George Brown Lawrence Liberty Memorial High School. During the final phase of World War II he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Subsequently, he continued his own training. By 1950, he studied journalism at the University of Kansas. In addition, he was enrolled at Harvard Business School and the University of Colorado and the University of Denver. For 14 years he worked in Colorado as a journalist. He worked for the Denver Post and was the host of several radio talk shows in Denver. Brown was also the first African-American newspaper editor in the middle Rocky Mountains. He was also on the board of the authority for social housing the city of Denver. In addition, he has lectured at the University of Colorado and University of Denver.

Politically, Brown joined the Democratic Party. In the years 1955 and 1956 he sat as an MP in the House of Representatives from Colorado; 1956 to 1975 he was a member of the State Senate. In 1974 he was elected to the side of Richard Lamb for Lt. Governor of the State of Colorado. This post he held between 1975 and 1979. Yet he was assistant to the governor. Mervyn M. Dymally Along with California, he was the first African American since the time of Reconstruction, was elected vice governor of any state.

After the end of his term as Lieutenant Governor George Brown worked for the Grumman Aerospace Corporation. There he soon became one of its vice- presidents. Later he worked as a lobbyist. In 1994 he worked for the law firm Whitten & Diamond in Washington DC. Besides, he was still working in other sectors. Since 1996, he had his main residence in Florida. He died on March 31, 2006 in Boca Raton.
