George Lynch (racing driver)

George John Lynch, Sr. ( born June 20, 1918 in Miles City, Montana, USA, † 7 May 1997 in Los Angeles, California (USA) was an American race car driver.

Lynch grew up on the farm of his grandparents after his parents divorced.

He drove mainly Midget and Sprintcar races of which he won some, however, due to its aggressiveness struck 1935-1957. His career was interrupted by his war effort in the Pacific 1944-1946.

Highlight of his racing career was his participation in the 500 miles of Indianapolis in 1949, where he turned out to be a qualified eighth, but already in the second round by an accident. In 1950 and 1951 he was in each case for the race do not qualify. Then he went further Midget and stock car racing and also tried his hand as a NASCAR driver. In 1957 he retired from racing.

After his retirement he lived in Southern California and worked as a car mechanic, fisherman and ambassador for his sport. He was married five times and had four children. He died in 1997 as a result of Alzheimer's disease.
