George Maxwell Richards

George Maxwell Richards TC ( born December 1, 1931 in San Fernando ) is a politician. He was 2003-2013 President of Trinidad and Tobago.

Study and work as a professor of chemistry

After schooling he worked from May 1950 to September 1951 as a trainee at a British oil company in Trinidad. Following this was a degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Manchester, where he graduated in 1955 with a Bachelor of Science ( B.Sc.) and in 1957 with a Master of Science ( M.Sc.). From 1957-1965 Richards was a manager at the Shell Trinidad Ltd.. active.

In 1963 he became a Doctor of Philosophy ( Ph.D.) in Cambridge. In 1965 he became a lecturer in chemical engineering at the University of the West Indies. In October 1970, his appeal was a professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of the West Indies. There he was from August 1980 to May 1985 and Vice Rector and Provizekanzler. From October 1984 to May 1985 he was also acting rector. From May 1985 to November 1986 he was finally Rector of the University of the West Indies.

As a chemical engineer, he was also a member of the Association of Professional Engineers of Trinidad and Tobago, the institution of chemical engineers in London, the Institute of Petroleum in London and the Royal Society of Chemistry in London.

Professor Richards was the member of the board of several companies. In addition, he was chairman of the National Training Authority, the National Advisory Council and the Institute of Marine Affairs. He was also from January 1977 to March 2003 Chairman of the State Commission for the content rating.
