George Messier

George Messier ( born April 23, 1896 in Monts, † January 23, 1933 ) was a French chemical engineer. After his education he began in 1921 with basic considerations for manufacture of shock absorbers and experimented with pneumatic and hydro-pneumatic structures. Together with René Lucien he founded in 1927 the Société Française de Matériel d'Aviation, from 1933, the Société Messier emerged.

After a test vehicle with air suspension for Bugatti Messier himself turned to the production of shock absorbers, brakes, wheels and hydro-pneumatic suspension systems. From 1926 to 1931 he produced in Montrouge cars, which he offered as Messier. Later, he worked primarily in the aerospace industry. The situation created by the merger with competitor Dowty Messier - Dowty company was still active in this area and a world leader. Messier - Bugatti - Dowty, the name after the merger with the former sister company Messsier Bugatti since 2011 now a part of the company Safran.

Messier died as a result of a riding accident.
