George Miller (California politician)

George Miller ( born May 17, 1945 in Richmond, California) is an American legal scholar, politician of the Democratic Party, and since 1975 member of the U.S. House of Representatives for California.

Biography

After attending Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill, he studied at San Francisco State University ( SFSU ) and acquired in 1968 with a Bachelor of Arts ( AB). A subsequent post-graduate studies in law at the Law School of the University of California, Davis (UC Davis), he joined in 1972 with a Juris Doctor ( JD ) from. He then worked as a lawyer. In addition, he was already 1969-1974 legislative assistant to the Democratic Majority Leader ( Majority Leader ) in the Senate of California.

In 1974 he was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives and represents there after 17 elections since 3 January 1975 the seventh congressional district of California. During his many years of membership, he was from 1983 to 1991 Chairman of the Special Committee on Children, Youth and Families ( U.S. House Select Committee on Children, Youth, and Families ) and from 1991 to 1995 Chairman of the Committee on Natural Resources (U.S. House Committee on Natural Resources ). Since 2007, George Miller is chairman of the Committee on Education and Labor (U.S. House Committee on Education and Labor ). After another re-election in 2012 represents George Miller January 3, 2013 as the successor to Jerry McNerney eleventh electoral district of his state.
