George R. Lunn

George Richard Lunn (* June 23, 1873 near Lenox, Taylor County, Iowa, † November 27, 1948 in Rancho Santa Fe, San Diego County, California ) was an American soldier, priest and politician ( Democratic Party).

Career

George Richard Lunn attended schools in Lenox and Des Moines ( Iowa). He graduated in 1897 at Bellevue College in Bellevue (Nebraska ). During the subsequent Spanish - American War he held the rank of corporal in Company I, 3rd Regiment Nebraska. After the war he continued his studies at the universities of Princeton and Columbia. He graduated in 1901 at the Union Theological Seminary ( UTS) in New York City. Then he was 1901-1914 as pastor in Brooklyn and Schenectady (New York) worked.

Lunn also pursued a political career. He was in the years 1912, 1913, 1916 and 1917 mayor of Schenectady. During this time he was elected to the 65th Congress, but suffered during his re-election attempt in the 66th U.S. Congress defeat. He served in the U.S. House of Representatives on 4 March 1917 to 3 March 1919. Then he held from 1920 and the post of mayor of Schenectady, a position which he held until his retirement on 1 January 1923. He also participated in the years 1920, 1924, 1928, 1932 and 1936 as a delegate to the Democratic National Conventions. During this time he was 1923-1924 Vice- governor of New York. After that he was appointed in 1925 to the U.S. Commissioner in New York State, a position which he held until 1942 when he was forced to resign for health reasons.

Lunn died in 1948 in Rancho Santa Fe ( California ) and was buried at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Los Angeles.
