George R. Swift

George Robinson Swift ( born December 19, 1887 in Baldwin County, Alabama, † September 10, 1972 in New Orleans, Louisiana ) was an American politician and member of the Democratic Party.

Swift was born in 1887 in Baldwin County, Alabama. He studied at the University Military School in Mobile and the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Swift was from 1931 to 1935 a member of the House of Representatives from Alabama, and from 1935 to 1939 and from 1947 to 1951 Member of the Senate of Alabama. In 1946 he was appointed to the U.S. Senate to take over the vacant by the death of John Hollis Bankhead II mandate. Swift took on June 15, 1946 to November 5, 1946 Alabama as a senator in the U.S. Senate, for the election of the new appointments to the Senate seat he came not to.

Swift died on 10 September 1972 in New Orleans, Louisiana and was buried at Oak Hill Cemetery in Atmore.
