Henry George Sauer Jr. ( born November 10, 1943 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, † May 7, 2013 in Westerville, Ohio) was an US- American football player at the position of wide receiver. He played for the New York Jets in the National Football League ( NFL).

Origin / College

The Sauer family is originally from Russia. They were Volga German from Norka ( Nork ), a community that is today in Armenia. His grandparents emigrated to the United States. His father George Sauer senior is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame, was a noted football player and football coach and played as a professional in the Green Bay Packers .. George Sauer Jr. grew up in Waco, Texas, where he played already in high school American Football. Sauer played after finishing school college football at the University of Texas.

Professional career

Without being selected in the NFL Draft, he was obliged in 1965 by the New York Jets as a wide receiver. By 1970, Sauer was able to achieve 28 touchdowns for the Jets in 84 games. Sauer celebrated his biggest success in the AFL- NFL World Championship Game, which was renamed to Super Bowl III later. In this Super Bowl he was repeatedly informed of his quarterback Joe Namath in the scene and was able to achieve 133 Yards space gain in eight pass catches. The Jets won the game against the favored Baltimore Colts with 16:7. Sauer's performance helped Namath for election to the Super Bowl MVP. In 1970 he finished surprising his career in the NFL, because the pleasure he had passed on football. In 1974, he joined the New York Stars. A team which was located in the World Football League. The League noted, however after a year of the operation of gambling again.

Honors

Sauer played four times in the Pro Bowl and was elected three times to the All- Pro.

After the career

Sauer was married and lived in Waco. He died 69 years old at the consequences of heart failure.
